Wikipedia accurately defines interstitial pages: “On the World Wide Web, interstitials are web pages displayed before or after an expected content page, often to display advertisements or confirm the user’s age (prior to showing age-restricted material). Most interstitial advertisements are delivered by an ad server. Full-screen interstitial ads are referred to as hyperstitials.”
These days, many people use interstitial pages to target and qualify their purchased traffic. Being that media buying is such a complex method of acquiring traffic, I will only focus on buying traffic for your DatingGold and WebcamClub campaigns. After you’ve bought (or built) your landing page for your campaign and went through the process of adding links to your “I agree” button, it is important to remember the many details that follow. First, you are likely hosting this webpage, yourself. With that, you must note how your stats will be counted. Your click-through process may look something like this:
- User sees your ad.
- User clicks your ad and lands on your landing page (Which is still not reflected on your DG stats, because it is being served from your server. Though the user is seeing your content, he/she has still not clicked any link that we are serving. Hence, The click is not counted in DG stats, yet..).
- User fills out your questionnaire - if your interstitial uses one – and finally clicks your continue or agree button and through your script, lands on our join page (this is where your click is finally counted as 1 unique click, in your DG stats, under the heading of whichever program you are sending the user to).
- If the user fills out the join form and clicks the submit button, 1 join is counted in your DG stats, as well as whichever external stats program you use.
- After the join form is finished, the user is sent an email to confirm their email address. There is a confirm button or link in this email. Once the user clicks this
link, DG stats counts 1 lead.
- If the user likes what they see, they’ll purchase and the credit goes to your stats, as a sale.
Traffic networks will also have their own stats, to track impressions, clicks and clickthrough ratios. Some traffic networks offer tracking pixels to make tracking your campaign performance easier. It is also important to remember that these tracking pixels offered by traffic networks are not to be taken as gospel. There will sometimes be conversions that are not properly counted, for a variety of reasons. Therefore, it is a really good idea to cross-reference statistics on multiple levels. Use the network’s stats, but also take advantage of using your own stats counter (Google Analytics is great tool for seeing how your traffic responds to your interstitial pages) and you will get a better idea of how many people are exiting your page vs. clicking through to our join pages. Some users click though to your landing page, but for whatever reason, decide not to fill out your/our form and go elsewhere. Follow these tips and you’ll have an easier time tracking conversions and saving money on your traffic investment and hopefully, yielding better results on your DatingGold payouts! Good luck!
